Ranking

The ranking field lets respondents drag and drop items into their preferred order. It’s perfect for prioritization questions like “Rank these features from most to least important.”

Adding a ranking field

  • Click the + button between blocks, or
  • Type /ranking and select Ranking from the list

Adding items

Click on items to edit their text, press Enter to add new ones, and drag to reorder the default order.

Settings

  • Required — respondents must rank all items before submitting
  • Randomize — shuffle the default order for each respondent so position bias doesn’t skew your results

How it works for respondents

In the published form, respondents see a list of items they can drag and drop into their preferred order. Every item must be placed — there’s no skipping individual items in a ranking.

When to use it

Ranking works well when you want to understand relative preference — not just what people like, but what they like more. Great for:

  • Feature prioritization
  • Product comparisons
  • Preference ordering

If you just want to know how much people like something on an absolute scale, use Rating or Linear Scale instead.
